REINVENTED FAMILY TREE HOUSE

This 1960-era home was ripe for a remodel when it passed to the next generation of the family. The new owners wanted to preserve the character of their original family home while improving the circulation, letting in more natural light, and highlighting the stunning vistas of Mt. Tamalpais available from nearly every room. This transformation was accomplished by completely renovating the kitchen, adding bigger picture windows and expanding the decks to include a perch for a spa. The kitchen ceiling was raised and surrounded with clerestory windows. Skylights were added throughout the house to invite light and views from every direction while creating the sense of living in a treehouse. Family and guests enter the property through a handsome custom designed gateway, enjoy the gentle descent through the new garden landscape stairway, and are greeted by a dramatic new glass foyer brightened by skylights that offers a glimpse of the views across the valley through the living room picture windows.
